This module draws on the NCFSE 2023 to outline the aims and foundations of Mathematics teaching in Indian schools. Beyond arithmetic, Mathematics education is intended to build logical reasoning, problem-solving, and a genuine sense of joy and curiosity in learners. The curriculum follows a stage-wise progression — from foundational numeracy and play-based learning, through conceptual understanding and abstraction, to formal reasoning and mathematical modelling at the Secondary Stage.
For Secondary Stage specifically, content should promote abstraction, project-based and interdisciplinary learning, use of technology, and an awareness of mathematical history including Indian contributions.
